The Charles Houston Bar Association (CHBA) and Region IX of the National Bar Association (NBA) invite junior and seniors in high school to participate in the NBA’s 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major for Justice Advocacy Competition Competition!
CHBA will hold a local competition on April 15, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at Meyers Nave Riback Silver & Wilson Attys,555 12th St., Suite 1500 in Oakland in order to identify those students who will advance to the Regional Competition, which will be held in Marina del Rey, CA on April 29, 2017 during the California Association of Black Lawyers Conference. (http://cabl40.com/) The first place winner of each Regional Competition will represent that Region at the National Competition held during the NBA’s 92nd Annual Convention & Exhibits in Toronto, Canada on August 3, 2017. For the National Competition, a first place, second place, and third place winner will be chosen. The winners will each receive a one-time scholarship in the following amounts: First Place – $5,000, Second Place – $3,500, Third Place – $2,000. The other contestants will receive a one-time scholarship in the amount of approximately $500.
CHBA’s local competition consists of two parts: an essay writing contest and an oral competition. First, students must write an essay on the enclosed topic. All essays are due on or before Friday, April 7, 2017.
