Law Students for Reproductive Justice Summer Internship

Law Students for Reproductive Justice

Law Students for Reproductive Justice (LSRJ) trains and mobilizes law students and new lawyers across the country to foster legal expertise and support for the realization of reproductive justice. Mentoring and educating a diverse group of law students is an essential long-term strategy for building additional capacity, vision, and skilled support for the reproductive justice (RJ) movement. To ensure LSRJ is practicing the values inherent in the RJ framework, we are proud to offer two (2) paid summer legal internships in 2016. Law students’ financial situation should not determine the work they are able to undertake, particularly if they are passionate about social justice issues and want to utilize their degree to advocate for progressive change.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of the 10 week summer program (running from mid-June to mid-August), LSRJ interns:

  • learn the “lay of the land” in the reproductive health, rights, and justice movements
  • research cutting edge reproductive justice issues for allied organizations
  • develop materials for nationally coordinated campus activism campaigns, projects, and educational tools all designed to raise awareness of reproductive justice and its intersections with other areas of law and social justice
  • attend and present at the annual LSRJ Leadership Institute conference, which brings together student leaders from LSRJ chapters across the country
  • receive a comprehensive orientation and substantive training (including Blue Booking!) at the start of the internship
  • experience hands-on mentoring and networking opportunities with advocates, activists, and other social justice-minded law students throughout the summer

Fulltime positions are available during the summer with a commitment of 10 weeks. LSRJ seeks rising 2L and 3L applicants with strong legal research and writing skills and a demonstrated interest in social justice. Experience in gender equity, LGBTQ liberation, racial justice, disability rights, or reproductive rights and justice preferred. An internship at LSRJ provides empowering learning experiences for anyone interested in education, organizing, reproductive justice, and/or nonprofit management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Rising 2L or 3L
  • Familiarity with LSRJ programming and commitment to LSRJ mission and values
  • Knowledge of reproductive rights law and justice, constitutional law and/or human rights
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Available to work 10 weeks for 40 hours/week during the summer at the LSRJ National Office in Oakland, CA

COMPENSATION
LSRJ Summer Interns will be awarded up to a $4,500 stipend for their 10 weeks at LSRJ, dependent on financial need.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; the final deadline for the summer internship is 5:00pm PST on March 1, 2016.
